Activities
Day 1 Athens
Your journey begins with a welcome to Athens, the capital city of Greece. After arriving at the airport, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure to discover the city, home to an exquisite architectural history as well as a thriving modern society.
Day 2 Athens
Today, we begin our coach tour of Athens, a city full of life and named after the goddess Athena. This ancient city has stood for over 3000 years and holds many magnificent sights that we will get to explore. Our stops include the Panathenaic Stadium, the only marble stadium in the world, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus located in modern Athens. The highlight of our day is the Acropolis, a site revered by some as one of the most important ancient sites in the Western world. Here, we can admire iconic examples of classical Greek architecture such as the Parthenon. We also have the opportunity to visit the acclaimed Acropolis Museum for a guided tour before spending free time in Plaka - a charming neighborhood filled with history and charm. Take a stroll along its cobbled streets or unwind at one of its quaint tavernas with a refreshing drink. And don't forget to check out Ermou Street for some souvenir shopping! Please note that for certain departures, there will be an alteration in our itinerary: for trips on December 26th and January 1st, 2023, this Athens city tour will take place on day 6 after our four-day excursion to Olympia, Delphi, and Met
Day 3 Olympia
Today, we depart Athens and make our way to the Peloponnese, a region steeped in ancient lore. Our journey begins at the narrow Corinth Canal, a remarkable feat of engineering that was finally completed in 1893, after centuries of attempts. From there, we move on to Epidaurus, known for its well-preserved theater and history as a sanctuary for medicine and healing in times past. Our next destination is Mycenae, an important archeological site where Heinrich Schliemann unearthed remnants of an early civilization. We will marvel at the impressive Cyclopean walls, visit the famous Tomb of Agamemnon, and pass through the iconic Lion Gate. As we cross the majestic Peloponnese mountains, our final stop for the evening is Olympia.
Day 4 Olympia
During our tour, we will explore Olympia-Delphi, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games. Olympia is situated on the longest river in the Peloponnese, the Alfios. On our way to Delphi, we visit the Temple of Zeus, the Palestra, and Phidia's workshop. As we cross the Rio-Antiro Bridge this afternoon, we reach our final destination.
Day 5 Kalambaka
Kalambaka. Delphi was an ancient pilgrimage center, home to the Pythian Oracle. We will walk up the Sacred Way, the path used by ancient visitors through the sanctuary, to see the temple ruins and visit the local museum, which houses the bronze Charioteer statue and the mythical omphalos stone. Our next stop is Kalambaka, where we return from central Greece to the mainland in the evening.
Day 6 Kalambaka
Kalambaka - Athens. Today, we visit Meteora, a World Heritage site whose towering rock formations house several holy Eastern Orthodox monasteries. In 480 BC, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans made a famous last stand at Thermopylae, where we returned to Athens for the night.
Day 7 Back to the airport
First breakfast, then, we conclude our tour of the wonders of Greece with a transfer to the airport.
